Artist's Comments

So after I decided to take up photography again, I went on a photoshoot in the local woods with my friend Kim as the subject. I took about 100 pics and will eventualy upload them all, though I'd say most will go in scraps. So check in there from time to time to see if there's anything new. I'll probably post about it if there is.

AND PLEASE GIVE ME NOTES AND SUCH SO I CAN IMPROVE! <3

The setting is pretty to look at, but the position is vague - I can't tell what kind of mood Kim's in. It might be stronger if the shot focused more on her, like if she were in the first third of the picture with the woods surrounding her.

Honestly, what this photo needs is a good ol' fashioned dose of Photo 101. If you ever have an opportunity, take a photography class--it will do wonders for your pictures. Nevertheless, here's a few quick tips:

Never center your subject--always follow the Rule of Thirds. Kim needs to be either a little to the left or a little to the right. This makes the picture stronger compositionally, more pleasing to the eye, and less trite. Try it, it works. : )

Most of all, pay attention to your lighting. The lighting in this situation is rather dull. Backlighting is always beautiful and flattering; why not try facing towards the sun next time?

Also, get a more interesting angle. Try laying on the ground or climbing on things. Many photos are taken at a standard standing-height eye level, and it gets boring.

That should be enough to get you started. : )
